The ZF Group of Friedrichshafen, Germany has named the team of Walbridge Southeast and Red Rock Developments as the design/builder for its new $350-million 975,000 square foot transmission manufacturing facility near Greenville, S.C. The plant will make fuel-efficient eight and nine-speed automatic transmissions for the passenger car and light truck market.

Groundbreaking on the Laurens County facility was held on February 2, 2011 and hiring is expected to begin next year. By 2015, ZF estimates the facility will employ 900 workers, a more than 15-percent jump from its current North American workforce of about 5,900.

With offices in Columbia, S.C. and Charlotte, N.C., Red Rock Developments will have over 1,860,000 square feet under development once this project starts. Bill Smith, CEO of Red Rock Developments states, “we are pleased to be a part of such a tremendous project in our home state of South Carolina. Our continued efforts of building strong relationships throughout the southeast and nationally will afford Red Rock Developments future projects like this.”
